I see this question asked a lot, so i thought i'd give you my answer. Obviously as a makeup artist my response is going to be 'yes'.
Your wedding day is going to be one of the most amazing and best days of your life. If you are anything like me then you have been dreaming about it for a long time!
Baring this in mind we work tirelessly to make this day perfect. We spend so much time planning, researching, pintresting to make sure that everything is just the way we want it. We handpick our wedding suppliers to make sure that every little detail is right. We go and handpick our dress from a boutique that is perfectly fitted and makes us feel incredible. We choose flowers that effortlessly compliment our theme and have been arranged by a specialist florist. We choose a photographer/videographer that is going to capture every detail of our special day, that we will look back on forever and cherish. We choose a venue that we've decided on after looking at multiple options and we decide how to dress it so that it looks perfect.
You are the bride and every eye is going to be on you and you want to look perfect too. One way to ensure that this happens is to hire a makeup artist. Professional Makeup Artists know exactly how to make sure that your makeup looks flawless in the flesh and on camera too. They can analyse your skin and make sure that the products they use are suited to your skin type and they can make sure that your makeup lasts all day and through a night of celebrating. They are also able to create a look to really enhance your natural beauty and that reflects you perfectly.
Wedding days are stressful. I'm not going to lie my wedding day was perfect but I most certainly was not completely relaxed on the wedding morning. Doing your own makeup on a day that is already full of stress, may well end in tears and anger when your eyeliner doesn't apply perfectly or your foundation sits patchy. Having your makeup done is extremely relaxing and can really help you to calm and chill out. Personally not only am i there to do my brides makeup but, I am on hand all morning not only to do your makeup but to do up bracelets, put shoes on, lace up dresses etc.
All that being said, at the end of the day this decision is completely up to you. You need to feel 100% comfortable on your big day. If you want to do your own makeup, do it. If you want to book a luxury profession artist then book one.
But who do i book? (I will very quickly go over this as i will be doing a blog post on choosing a makeup artist very soon.) Take a look around your area at recommended makeup artists, ask friends and family for recommendations, have a chat to makeup artists and find one that you feel completely comfortable with and that you feel you can trust.
If you do decide to do your own makeup a few tips i can give are:
- Book a lesson with a makeup artist, they can help you to create a look for your wedding day that you can recreate confidently
- Purchase high end makeup and brushes.
- Make sure that you prep your skin
- Research products and make sure they are suited to your skin and won't give flash back etc.
At the end of the day as long as you feel like the very best version of you on your big day then trust your decision. My brides all tell me how thankful they are that they booked a professional on their big day to look after them. I love that i can do this for my brides.
